Moscow, Dec. 24 (PTI): The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Alexi II, has sent traditional Christmas greetings to Pope John Paul II.
“In these holidays I extend my most cordial and sincere greetings on the bright feast of Christmas! I pray wishing you Christmas joy and assistance from newborn Christ to your solemn service,” the message on the Church website said.
He had also sent greetings to the heads of other Christian churches celebrating Christmas on December 25 (Julian calendar).
The Orthodox Christian Churches of Russia, Georgia, Jerusalem and Serbia celebrate Christmas on January 7 according to the Gregorian calendar.
