Church offers pro-life service

The Catholic Church will establish a service to support women considering an abortion.

Sydney Archbishop George Pell said the program, to be run by the Catholic welfare agency Centacare in Sydney, would provide social, emotional and practical support to allow women to continue with their pregnancies.
“We need real alternatives to abortion, and while the Catholic Church provides many family services, this new pregnancy Support Program is targeted to meet the specific needs of women contemplating abortion,” he said in a statement.

“We want to respond to the needs of women facing an unexpected or difficult pregnancy by providing them with life-affirming options.”

The service would start in the new year, Cardinal Pell said.
